Muslim journalist Mehdi Hasan, political editor of the Huffington Post, warns Anne-Marie Waters that her "astonishing claims" might endanger her future as a Labour Party candidate, but assured her "don't worry, the BNP will take you".
Hasan asks why, if Islam is "responsible for killing," such a tiny percentage of believers actually participate in violence. He asks the audience if they really believe that 1.6 billion people are all "followers, promoters and believers in a religion of violence".
Hasan urges them not to "fuel the arguments of the phobes and bigots and legitimise hate", but to "trust the Muslims that you know and that you hear."

P.S. by BAFSMehdi Hasan made a huge mistake in a talk with Pr Richard Dawkins at the Oxford Union while mentioning "GAS CHAMBERS" as if they had indeed existed when all the evidence available prove there were no HOMICIDE GAS CHAMBERS in the Third Reich! (See the works of Pr Robert Faurisson, Vincent Reynouard, etc.) And he had some poor responses to Dawkins' colossal and blatant lies about religion, God, Islam and violence. It is to be noted that Mehdi Hasan is a Muslim and not an Islamic Scholar.
One "SIMON PALE" has left a comment on the post "MEHDI HASAN - PEACEFUL ISLAM AT THE OXFORD UNION" and made an accusation without providing any evidence at all.
"Mehdi Hasan is indeed not an Islamic scholar: when asked a direct question by Pr. Richard Dawkins as to whether, in Islam, the punishment for apostasy is death, he replied "no!"" So, either he lied, or he is ignorant of what the Qur'an has to say about apostasy. As you say, he is not an Islamic scholar.
