YouTube keeps removing information people need about the virus, as we know, but now the Wall Street Journal, rather a significant platform, is blasting them for it.
The most recent example comes in the form of an article by Jay
Bhattacharyaof Stanford, who later this week will once again be my
guest on the Tom Woods Show.
Bhattacharya writes about the panel of scientists advising Ron DeSantis,
governor of Florida, and the roundtable discussion they recently had
that YouTube decided needed to be hidden from the public.
The other panelists were Sunetra Gupta of Oxford, Martin Kulldorff of Harvard and Scott Atlas of Stanford.
Writes Bhattacharya:
But last week YouTube removed a recording of this routine policy
discussion from its website. The company claimed my fellow panel members
and I were trafficking in misinformation. The company said it removed
the video "because it included content that contradicts the consensus of
local and global health authorities regarding the efficacy of masks to
prevent the spread of COVID-19."
Yet the panelists are all experts, and all spoke against requiring children to wear masks.
The scientific evidence is clear. Consider a study from Iceland
conducted early in the epidemic when masking was uncommon. The study
used a representative sample to track the source of Covid infections.
The authors used contact-tracing methods paired with genetic sequencing
analysis to establish precisely how the disease spread. The senior
author of the study, Kari Stefansson, later told reporters that "even if
children do get infected, they are less likely to transmit the disease
to others than adults. We have not found a single instance of a child
infecting parents." Many studies in the scientific literature reach a
similar conclusion: Even unmasked children pose less of a risk for
disease spread than adults.
And he continues from there.
Bhattacharya has been a hero throughout the entire crisis, and has taken
enormous abuse and been on the receiving end of wild accusations -- for
example, that he must be in the pay of radical libertarians (as if one
would need to be bribed in order to point out that lockdowns destroy
lives).

A handful of coins unearthed from a pick-your-own-fruit orchard in the US state of Rhode Island and other random corners of New England may help solve a centuries-old cold case.
The
villain in this tale: a murderous English pirate who became the world’s
most-wanted criminal after plundering a ship carrying Muslim pilgrims
home to India from Mecca, then eluded capture by posing as a slave
trader.
Jim Bailey, an
amateur historian and metal detectorist, found the first intact
17th-century Arabian coin in a meadow in Middletown.
That ancient pocket change – the oldest ever found in North America – could explain how pirate Capt Henry Every vanished.
On
7 September 1695, the pirate ship Fancy, commanded by Every, ambushed
and captured the Ganj-i-Sawai, a royal vessel owned by the Indian
emperor Aurangzeb, then one of the world’s most powerful men. Onboard
were not only the worshippers returning from their pilgrimage but tens
of millions of dollars’ worth of gold and silver.
What
followed was one of the most lucrative and heinous robberies of all
time. Historical accounts say Every’s band tortured and killed the men
onboard the Indian ship and raped the women before escaping to the
Bahamas.
Word of their crimes spread quickly,
and King William III of England – under enormous pressure from a
scandalised India and the East India Company trading giant – put a large
bounty on their heads. “Everybody was looking for these guys,” said

Until
now, historians knew only that Every eventually sailed to Ireland in
1696, where the trail went cold. But Bailey says the coins he and others
have found are evidence that the notorious pirate first made his way to
the American colonies, where he and his crew used the plunder for
day-to-day expenses while on the run.
The first
complete coin surfaced in 2014 at Sweet Berry farm in Middletown, a
spot that had piqued Bailey’s curiosity two years earlier after he found
old colonial coins, an 18th-century shoe buckle and some musket balls.
Waving
a metal detector over the soil, he got a signal, dug down and found a
darkened silver coin he initially assumed was either Spanish or money
minted by the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Peering closer, the Arabic text
on the coin got his pulse racing.
Research
confirmed that the exotic coin was minted in 1693 in Yemen. That raised
questions, Bailey said, since there was no evidence that American
colonists struggling to eke out a living in the New World travelled to
anywhere in the Middle East to trade until decades later.
Since
then, other detectorists have unearthed 15 additional Arabian coins
from the same era – 10 in Massachusetts, three in Rhode Island and two
in Connecticut. Another was found in North Carolina, where records show
some of Every’s men first came ashore.
“It
seems like some of his crew were able to settle in New England and
integrate,” said Sarah Sportman, the state archaeologist for
Connecticut, where one of the coins was found in 2018 in the ongoing
excavation of a 17th-century farm site. “It was almost like a money
laundering scheme,” she said.
Although it
sounds unthinkable now, Every was able to hide in plain sight by posing
as a slave trader – an emerging profession in 1690s New England. On his
way to the Bahamas, he even stopped at the French island of Réunion to
get some Black captives so he would look the part, Bailey said.
Obscure
records show that a ship called the Sea Flower, used by the pirates
after they ditched the Fancy, sailed along the eastern seaboard. It
arrived with nearly four dozen slaves in 1696 in Newport, Rhode Island,
which became a major hub of the North American slave trade in the 18th
century.
“There’s extensive primary source
documentation to show the American colonies were bases of operation for
pirates,” said Bailey, 53, who holds a degree in anthropology from the
University of Rhode Island and worked as an archaeological assistant on
explorations of the Wydah Gally pirate ship wreck off Cape Cod in the
late 1980s.

I
received this email from a young person the other day, and all I can
say is: I cannot understand how we've allowed the deranged lunatics who
are doing this to him to claim the moral high ground.
This isn't pleasant to read, but as you'll discover, it needs to be read:
I am a college student at a major US university pursuing a degree in
STEM. A few years ago I was diagnosed with a very mild form of
schizophrenia. I am considered extremely high functioning. I have
friends, do well in school, and I am able to hold a part-time job where I
get along with everyone.
Ever since the lockdowns began, our
school has treated us in a manner that can only be described as abusive.
Our online education has essentially meant that we have to teach
ourselves, because our instructors won't. The workload for every single
class for everyone I know doubled as soon as we got sent home, since
every instructor believes we have all the time in the world now.
Homework and exams have been made more difficult in an absurd attempt to
prevent "cheating." (This is their own explanation.) They have given us
no resources to work with, and instructors treat us in an almost
combative manner.
I am a hard worker, but I can't do this
anymore. Last semester, I was working for about 16 hours every day,
seven days a week, with no outside assistance outside of our halfhearted
lecture videos. Near the end, I had five weeks in a row where I worked
for 48 hours straight with no sleep to try and make deadlines I couldn't
even hit. A friend of mine was falsely accused of an academic integrity
violation, given virtually no chance to appeal, and is now on probation
for the remainder of his time here.
Our families are paying a fortune for us to teach ourselves through YouTube.
Walking onto campus feels like going to
a wake. There is a morose atmosphere in the air, and everywhere is as
quiet as a library. There is absolutely no social interaction except
amongst friends who already know each other. There are volunteer
students who act as the school's Stasi to enforce covid guidelines.
I myself am reduced to a broken mess. I
feel like I have nothing. All my friends are depressed from stress and
work. My family cares for me but doesn't know how to console me. The
doctors just want to experiment with a cocktail of medications that have
every side effect imaginable, and they aren't even confident it would
help me. I have nobody anymore.
I have always appreciated the work you and others have done to help
advance the cause of liberty. I know you were aware of how much of a
racket higher education was before all this madness again, but now it
feels like a hostage situation. I can't think of ever starting a family
now if my child would have to go through this just to do decently well
in life. I needed to write this so I could know that someone out there
understands what they are doing to us.
I can't stress how bad it is, sir.
There are freshman killing themselves here. My mental health can't take
this. I fee like my youth has been stolen from me, and turned against
me. Life doesn't feel worth living anymore.
Please never stop fighting against
this. This is a horrific institution run by genuinely evil people. The
people at these universities are more soulless than anyone in office.
People like you are all we have left.
I am truly speechless.
Even before the virus fiasco, we lived in a society in which major
institutions treated people like you and me with open contempt.
Things are suddenly far worse.
The K-12 system isn't exactly our friend, either, needless to say.
The well-known "serenity prayer" is probably the one good thing Reinhold
Niebuhr ever did: "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I
cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know
the difference."
I can't change the university or K-12 systems.
