Books about Secret Societies
"We are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies
primarily on covert means for expanding its influence—on infiltration
instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead
of free choice . . . Its preparations are concealed . . . its mistakes
are buried . . . no secret is revealed."
— President John F. Kennedy

Hidden History
The influence of Secret Societies on world history is more pervasive than most people realize. Secret networks of spies, financiers, and criminal operators have existed since ancient times and have influenced western civilization for centuries. Yet they are difficult to research because their activities are hidden, their records are not public, and they are protected by powerful people.
This collection of books was assembled in order to help people who would like to know more about the unseen forces behind world events research for themselves. Our focus is on historical subjects, especially wars, revolutions, and criminal syndicates between 1650 and 1980. Other topics related to Secret Societies, such symbolism, occult knowledge, and ancient religions are touched on, but not emphasized. We focus on history and do not include books by living authors or discuss current events.
Most of the following books were published by authors who did original research or made valuable disclosures in the pre-internet age. Their accounts upend much of what we think of as established history and their books are still valuable resources for the study of secret societies. Surprisingly, the problems of secret societies and organized criminal networks were discussed more openly a hundred years ago than they are today. This is because modern media is highly controlled and serious discussion of malevolent international conspiracies is forbidden.
Researching secret societies has always been challenging. No single author has all the answers or a complete picture of events. But every detail does not need to be resolved in order to see the hidden hand behind world events and the more you study, the more clear the picture becomes.
Think for yourself.
Research for yourself.
Trust yourself.
If you are new to researching these topics, we have written a short Secret Society FAQs. We have also listed some of the most helpful introductory texts, written specifically for the uninitiated in our Conspiracy Primers section.

'Conspiracy' Primers
These books are introductory texts intended for those who are not familiar with conspiratorial interpretations of history. Most people believe what they are told and try to make sense of world events without resorting to an over-arching conspiracy. However, these authors present many disturbing proofs that a world-wide network of criminals does exist, and are able to put the problem into understandable terms, without overwhelming their readers.

Authors who died unexpectedly are indicated in blue.
Gary Allen (1936-1986) — Allen's "None Dare Call it Conspiracy" was published and distributed independently during the early seventies and sold several million copies. Allen discusses the existence of an international criminal network responsible for much world-conflict, but his book focuses mostly on the nefarious activities of a network of "insiders" within the United States government, whose loyalties are clearly un-American. Allen died at age 50 of unknown causes.

Myron Fagan (1887-1972) — Myron Fagan was a successful theatrical and movie producer who worked to expose corruption and communist agents in Hollywood during the "Red Scare" of the 1950's. His essay is short, easy to understand, and intended to alert Americans of the threat posed by Secret Societies. This book is the transcript of a speech that covered operations of the 'illuminati' in the United States from the Civil War to the 1950s.

Archibald Ramsay (1887-1972) — Captain Ramsay was a British MP who opposed Britain's involvement in European wars and believed the Soviet Union, backed by international banking cartels, was a greater threat to Britain than Nazi Germany. His book exposes "Jewish" influence on revolutionary activity in Europe and pro-war propaganda and manipulation. Ramsay faced tremendous backlash and criticism for his disclosures and was imprisoned without charges for the duration of WWII.

William Guy Carr (1895-1959) — Carr was a Canadian Naval Officer, and an expert in Submarine Warfare. Before publishing 'Pawns in the Game', he wrote numerous books on naval warfare. Like several other researchers who begin their studies working from a secular point of view, Carr came to realize that Biblical history was of enormous importance in understanding the diabolical alliances behind secret societies. Carr died at age 64 while writing 'Satan, Prince of this World'.

Manning Johnson (1908-1959) — Johnson was a courageous negro who rose to a high rank in the Communist party before realizing the true Communist agenda was to use the negro race to divide Americans, foment race wars, and destroy the social fabric of the country. Fully understanding the risk to himself, he wrote the book 'Color, Communism, and Common Sense' exposing the hypocritical and cynical Communist plan to exploit negroes, and began a speaking tour to alert black communities throughout America to the danger. Soon afterward Johnson died suddenly and his book was withdrawn from circulation.

Smedley Butler (1881-1940) — Butler was a Marine Corps officer and hero, the most decorated Marine in U.S. History. After 34 years fighting American Wars, from the Philippines to WWI, he became an outspoken critic of American foreign policy and engagement in foreign wars. By the end of his life he was an extreme critic of American military entanglements and advocated a non-interventionist foreign policy. His work is a "classic" among anti-war activists. Though in excellent health at age 59, he died unexpectedly, just as Roosevelt began ramping up U.S. involvement in WWII.

Most of the authors in this section focus mainly on subversive movements in 20th century America. A few authors, such as Mullins and Webster, make connections to a worldwide conspiracy, but most books treat a specific topic in detail and are very well documented. Other notable authors, who wrote about topics of critical interest to conspiracy theorists, such as World War II, the Protocols of Zion, and Freemasonry are listed elsewhere.

NOTE: Most prominent authors in the field of Secret Society research are regularly portrayed as "anti-Semitic", "Nazis", "racist", "paranoid", "extremist" and "conspiracy theorists". They are maligned, misrepresented, and quoted out of context. The object of their detractors is to discredit the authors so that their works remain unread. Nevertheless, most are courageous patriots and are highly regarded by those who have actually read their works.
Nesta Webster (1876-1960) — Webster was an outstanding English scholar who did pioneering work in Secret Society research. Her books are meticulously researched and documented, so her work is cited by many other researchers. Her special areas of expertise include the French Revolution, revolutionary movements throughout Europe in the 19th century, and the history of secret societies. Webster makes insightful and well-founded claims, although she is considerably more vocal about scurrilous activities on the continent than among her own countrymen. Her analysis of complicated situations is intelligent and has aged well.

The 1920s were a critical period in world history. The catastrophe of the first World War, shocked the world, labor strikes paralyzed western governments, and violent revolutions in both Russia and Mexico had put 'bolsheviks' in power. Thousands of people began waking up to the fact that a world-wide network of "communists" was actively working to overthrow western democracies. The following authors provide tremendous insights into America's early struggle with the "communist" menace.
Richard M. Whitney (1874-1924) — Whitney wrote the book "Reds in America" shortly after a Federal raid on Communist Party Conference in Bridgman, Michigan. Several high ranking communist leaders were arrested and hundreds of documents revealing plans to subvert and overthrow the U.S. government were found. This book is based on those documents, which outline an ingenious plan for infiltrating labor unions, colleges, newspapers, churches, the army, and many other civic groups. Plans to radicalize women, negroes, farmers and laborers are laid out along with a strategy of infiltrating congress by using sleeper agents from both parties. At the time Whitney wrote this book, trials for the communist agents were still on-going, and the author hoped that public exposure of the Bridgman documents would awaken Americans to the threat. Unfortunately, Whitney died (at age 48) a year after the book was published, almost all the conspirators were freed, and the incriminating documents of the Bridgman raid were forgotten. The incident is almost never mentioned in conventional histories, and the extremely prophetic nature of the documents uncovered is rarely discussed.Blair Coan (1887-1949) — Coan was a journalist and investigator during the early 1920's and in his book "The Red Web" gives a firsthand account of the events surrounding the Railroad strike of 1922, the death of President Harding, and the forced resignation of Attorney General Daugherty. The book casts a great deal of light on the contrived 'scandals' of the Harding administration, the hypocrisy of the Senate investigation committees, and on the political assassination of anti-communists. The American "Reds" identified by Coan saw the Justice department as a threat to their ability to subvert the government and they instigated a smear campaign, targeting not only Daugherty, but the entire Department of Justice. Coan provides reams of evidence that the Harding Cabinet 'scandals', were maliciously contrived. Along with Flynn's The Smear Terror, the Red Web is a good source for understanding the "communist" technique of systematically discrediting their opponents.

Vladimir V. Tchernavin (1887-1949) — Tchernavin was a Russian scientist who escaped from the Soviet Gulags in the early 1930's. I Speak for the Silent is a riveting, well written page-turner that gives both a personal account of his ordeal and many factual insights about how the Soviet work camps, secret police, and prison system were organized. Tchernavin's account was one of the earliest first-person accounts of Soviet slave labor camps published in English, and it was the book that convinced Whitaker Chambers to leave the communist party. The book was published and distributed in the early thirties, so there is no question that the outrages and abominations of Soviet slave camps were well known and documented before Churchill and Roosevelt made their alliance with Stalin.

Emanuel M. Josephson (1895-1975) — Josephson was an eminent eye-doctor in New York who become one of the most vocal and effective critics of Roosevelt and his administration. He was extremely knowledgeable about many aspects of the cabal, and based on his resume (John Hopkins, Columbia, Red Cross, etc.) one might assume he had some access to "insider" knowledge of their workings. It is curious that he was prominent enough to have his letters posted in the New York Times, publish a dozen books, and to have direct access to several persons in Roosevelt's administration, and yet his biography is not listed anywhere on the internet.
Josephson's books contain certain information that cannot be found in most other sources. This indicates a great deal of original research, or access to some sources of information that are not widely known. He also provides fascinating analysis from an highly informed and intelligent viewpoint. Josephson's surveys of the Roosevelt and Rockefeller networks are full of fascinating details about both obscure and well known characters, and his scathing critique of the American Medical system is insightful and well-researched. Overall, Josephson is a highly interesting and unusual contributor to the annals of 'hidden' history.

Rosalie Gordon (1911-1996) was a researcher who worked for John T. Flynn for over 25 years. After his death she published a critical study of the Supreme Court from the Roosevelt to Eisenhower eras. Gordon points problems with a number of decisions by the liberal 'Warren Court' (1953-1969), but makes special note of the series of decisions during the mid 1950's that made it impossible for federal, state, or local governments to defend themselves against Communist infiltration, sabotage, or propaganda. The meaning of "Free Speech" was expanded to protect the "rights" of both communists and criminals, even when they were accused of open acts of subversion and violence against the American government.

Eustace Mullins (1923-2010) — Mullins began researching the Federal Reserve while working in the Library of Congress, and when he published his first exposé of the system he was dismissed from his job and blackballed by publishers. His subsequent works exposed the names and financial dealings of hundreds of malicious agents, particularly those associated with the Rothschild and Rockefeller financial networks. Mullins "follows the money" and exposes foundations, financial connections, and family networks that prove close coordination and cabal control of an enormous share of the American economy. His books are tremendously informative, and often shocking, but difficult to refute because of the depth of his research.

Cooper correctly predicted a number of developments, most notably an impending terror attack which he claimed would be attributed to Osama bin Laden. Cooper was outspoken regarding the cover-up of government involvement in the '9-11' destruction of the World Trade Center. World War II 'Revisionists'
"The Rockefeller Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations intend to prevent,
if they can, a repetition of what they call in the vernacular 'the debunking
journalistic campaign following World War I.' Translated into precise English,
this means that the Foundation and the Council do not want journalists or any
other persons to examine too closely and criticize too freely the official
propaganda and official statements relative to 'our basic aims and activities'
during World War II."
— Charles A. Beard
Even people who don't know much history are familiar with America's heroic victory over the Nazi's and Japanese during World War II. Unfortunately, the way the conflict has been portrayed in "conventional" histories is a carefully constructed myth. The most significant outcome of WWII, in geopolitical terms, was to greatly expand the realm of "Soviet" influence. According to "conventional" histories, the passing of Eastern Europe and China to Communist hands was an unfortunate, but unintended outcome. On closer inspection, however, the policies that led to the debacle were undoubtedly planned well in advance.
The authors listed below were independent journalists and historians who proposed 'revisionist' accounts of WWII. As a result they were smeared and their findings were repressed. Some of their works infer that many highly-placed officials in the British and American governments appeared to serve the interests of "international communism" rather than their own nation. In other words:—treason at the highest levels of government.
NOTE: Most of these books describe conspiracies and treachery that relate to American involvement in WWII. More details about the political manipulation of European nations that was intended to goad them into war is dealt with HERE
Roosevelt and Rockefeller (1895-1976) — Before reading the accounts of 'revisionist' historians, it may be helpful to take a close look at the criminal network of 'communists' and traitors associated with the Roosevelt and Rockefeller families. Below are a few critical biographies of these powerful and perfidious clans. Although their leaders are presented as civic-minded patriots in most conventional histories, in truth they were despicable mobsters, and their henchmen were largely responsible for our disastrous and fraudulent world wars.

John T. Flynn (1882-1964) — Flynn was an American journalist who began his career as a left-leaning, non-interventionist political reporter. At first he supported Roosevelt, but over time became increasingly critical and began to report on a pattern of mendacious and dictatorial behavior. Flynn stopped short of accusing Roosevelt himself of treason, but provided detailed accounts of the corruption, profligacy, betrayal and communist sympathies of those in FDR's administration. He also reported on the orchestrated propaganda, smear campaigns, perfidy, and outright lies of the complicit press corps. Flynn's meticulously researched accounts leave no question that Roosevelt, Truman and their advisors intentionally led the United States into war against the wishes of most Americans, knowingly sacrificed Eastern Europe to Stalin, and much of Asia to Communist forces. Flynn's books are an extremely important resource for understanding the truth about American involvement in WWII and the Cold War Era.

"What is the average American to think when the New York Times and Herald-Tribune; the Methodist Bishop Oxnam and the Chicago Catholic Bishop Shiel; Gus Hall, National Secretary of the Communist Party; Adlai Stevenson and General Eisenhower are all united in one great cause—the war on Senator McCarthy because he is fighting Communists in Government? This curious collection of allies compels us to re-examine some of our cherished assumptions about America. If we will do that with candor, we will begin to understand why the Communist revolution in America is so terrifying a threat to our civilization." — John T. Flynn
Joseph McCarthy (1908-1957) — Nothing illustrates the terrifying ability of Secret Societies to smear and destroy their detractors, control public opinion, and falsify history better than the story of Joseph McCarthy. In conventional histories, he is vilified as a demagogue and bully who made 'reckless' and 'false' accusations against hundreds of 'suspected' communists. The truth is McCarthy was a courageous patriot, and his real crime was to make extremely well-substantiated charges of conspiracy and treason against a few very powerful people, including George Marshall (Secretary of Defense), and Dean Acheson (Secretary of State). In America's Retreat from Victory, McCarthy demonstrates that the loss of Eastern Europe and China to the 'Communists' following America's victory in WWII was intentionally orchestrated at the highest levels of government. He demonstrates how the leaders of the Defense and State departments knowingly worked to further the aims of International Communism, and betrayed the interest of freedom-loving people in America and throughout the world.
The life, career, and reputation of Joseph McCarthy were systematically destroyed so that Americans would not read this book or recognize the seriousness of the charges he makes against the most powerful and 'respected' leaders of their government. Read it, understand the implications, and make your own decision.

Harry Elmer Barnes (1889-1968) — For most of his long career as a historian, Barnes wrote conventional histories that were widely published and well-reviewed. During WWI he supported the U.S. entry into the war against Germany, but after the war changed his mind, and came to believe U.S. involvement in the World War had been a disaster. He and many other historians of his age were anti-interventionists, and wrote histories arguing that the allies were as much responsible for WWI as Germany. Once America entered WWII however, many historians—especially those in government or University sponsored positions, adopted the government's pro-war positions. Barnes continued arguing against U.S. involvement in foreign wars, and as a result, he claims that he and other non-interventionist historians were blacklisted. In later years he was labeled a pro-German, anti-Semite 'holocaust denier'.
Revisionism and the Historical Blackout is Barnes best known work from the post war period. In it he describes the methods by which Historians who departed from the 'official story' justifying U.S. entry into WWII, were blacklisted, smeared, and demoted, and how every effort was made to prevent public discussion of historical controversies related to WWII.

Douglas Reed (1895-1976) — Reed was an independent British journalist stationed in Germany during the 1930's. He recognized Hitler as an unstable megalomaniac and his 1938 book Insanity Fair described conditions in pre-war Germany and criticized Nazi policies towards the Jews. During the war and in the years after, however, he became increasingly suspicious of the activities and pro-war propaganda of the allies, and over time came to believe that a malevolent 'Zionist' conspiracy was responsible for much of the political chaos in the world. It is ironic that a writer who rose to prominence as one of the first British journalists to denounce the Nazis and criticize Hitler (long before the Munich agreement), was ultimately branded as an anti-Semite, Fascist, and 'holocaust-denier'.

The following texts are alleged to be authentic transcripts produced by secret organizations. They explicitly describe techniques and deceptions used to gain control over people and governments. All have been called forgeries, or frauds, but the evidence for them being falsified is inconsistent. NOTE: The "Elders of Zion" refers to a cabal of CANAANITES. Many powerful Canaanites present themselves as Jews, but most Jews have no relationship to the cabal. THE USE OF EQUIVOCAL LANGUAGE TO DISGUISE CANAANITE ACTIVITIES UNDER JEWISH COVER IS AN INTENTIONAL DECEPTION.
Mount Zion was originally the site of a Canaanite fortress that was destroyed by the Jews. It was also the site of Solomon's Temple, built by Israel's treacherous Phoenician-Canaanite neighbors. The Protocols elucidate long-standing Canaanite precepts and methods, and the more one learns about Phoenician history and culture, the more obvious this is.
Reaction to the Protocols —The English translation of the 'Protocols of the Elders of Zion' caused an enormous uproar in Britain, including a lively debate in the London Morning Post. The authors of Cause of the World's Unrest (some of whom remained anonymous) presented compelling evidence that a world-wide conspiracy promoting sedition and violent uprisings did in fact exist and that the 'Jewish Peril' was an authentic threat. Lucien Wolf, a one-man ADL (anti-Defamation League) argued that the 'Protocols' were a forgery inspired by anti-Semitic malice.

The Dearborn Independent — In the United States, Henry Ford (1867-1947) paid to promote distribution of the Protocols. He also funded the Dearborn Independent, a newspaper that published a series of articles discussing the implications of "Jewish" influence in finance, politics, and business. The series was published in four volumes under the title The International Jew. Ford was not the author, but he promoted the series and advocated an open discussion of the "Jewish Problem" among Jews and gentiles of good will.
Though frequently condemned as "anti-Semitic", The International Jew, is a fascinating, and meticulously documented history of Jewish activities and influence in the United States. The author acknowledges that those he condemns as dangerous conspirators are a small minority of American Jews, and the only 'remedy' he proposes is public exposure of their underhanded methods and deceptions. His works provide detailed insights into the 'methods and operations' of a dangerous cabal with enormous power over the American government. And it is this exposure of their perfidious activities, suspicious foreknowledge of events, and manipulation of political institutions—rather than animus against Jews—that makes this an especially relevant series.
These volumes cover many facets of Jewish-American operations and are of such historical interest that we organized all eighty articles in the series by topic on This Page.

Freemasonry
The most familiar "secret society" in recent centuries is Freemasonry and its role in modern history is enormous. Freemasonry has been a major factor in every social conflict from the French Revolution to the Great War. Freemasonry embodies many characteristics common to other secret societies, such as a deceptive outer appearances, "degrees" of secret knowledge, and occult rites and symbolism.
NOTE: The central allegory of Freemasonry involves the murder of Hiram Abiff, a Phoenician-Canaanite architect by three "ruffians". Higher level Freemasons are expected to swear eternal vengeance against the enemies of Hiram (enemies of the Phoenicians) and avenge his death. It is possible that the allegorical murder of Hiram refers to the destruction of the Canaanite cities of Zion, Tyre, and Carthage.
The Catholic Church played an important role in opposing Freemasonry in the 19th century, and most of the following surveys were written by Catholic priests or Christian ministers. They describe the political intrigue, deceit and method of operation of Freemasonry as well as its rites, symbols, history, and relationship to Christianity.

John Robison (1739-1805) — Robison is one of the Godfathers of Conspiracy Theory literature. He was a respected scientist and high ranking British Freemason whose landmark book exposed the Bavarian Illuminati and documented the involvement of Freemasonry in the French Revolution. It is of tremendous historical importance because it was widely read at the turn of the 19th century, and temporarily restrained the most noxious elements of American Freemasonry. It is a compelling and insightful book, but its lack of chapter topics and organization make it somewhat difficult for introductory readers to follow.
We are working on trying to make this work more accessible by breaking up certain long chapters and adding subtopic headings, but in the meantime refer interested readers to the project Gutenberg version.

Semitic History: Israelites and Canaanites
"I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not,
but are the synagogue of Satan." — Revelation 2:9
Much 'Secret Society' research demonstrates links to a world wide criminal network under supposedly "Jewish" control, but as we've said before, the cabal leaders can be more accurately described as Canaanites. Racially speaking, the ancient Phoenicians were closely related to the Israelites, but instead of worshipping the God of Abraham they worshipped Baal, a fallen Angel. Many occult rites and symbols are closely related to the Canaanite religion and culture, so a study of both Biblical and Phoenician history provides helpful insights into the activities of secret societies.
The Israelites and Phoenicians of Ancient Times (1000 B.C. to 500 A.D.) — The Early history of the Canaanites extends back beyond 1000 B.C. The Phoenicians, who are the most interesting and important of the Canaanite nations, had close relations with the Egyptians during the "New Kingdom" period (1600 to 1000 B.C.). From about 1200 until 200 B.C. they dominated trade throughout the Mediterranean and beyond; and after the fall of Carthage, they exerted great influence over the Roman Empire. The Old Testament is one of the most important sources of information about the Phoenicians, although it needs to be read through Canaanite eyes (good is bad, black is white) to understand its implications.
After the fall of their Phoenician cities of Tyre and Carthage, the Canaanites dispersed throughout the Mediterranean while maintaining secret alliances. Some lived as Romans, Greeks, or Arabs, but a many adopted Hebrew identities so the history of the 'Jews' remained entangled with that of their Phoenician brethren. Understanding that some Canaanite sects have embedded themselves within Jewish communities helps to explain a great deal about the so-called "Jewish Diaspora" and the evident relationship between malevolent "Jews" and secret societies.
The following books provide insight into the ancient Jews and Phoenicians, but more research is needed to address the manner in which Canaanites exerted influence over the Roman Empire. This topic is touched upon in the Heritage History Ancient Rome study program.

The Israelites and Phoenicians of the Middle Ages (500 to 1500 A.D.) —
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to trace the history of the Canaanites
after they "disappear" from recorded history in the early
Christian era. It can best be done by studying the Secret societies
and trading networks of the Middle Ages, and by searching for tell-tale
signs of Canaanite influence in Medieval institutions. Jewish history of
all ages is of interest, especially the Sephardi and Jewish communities western Europe,
but Canaanite influence extends far beyond the Jews.

Another important place to look for Phoenician influence during the Middle Ages is in trading and commercial networks. But this is such an important connection, it requires its own division.

Traders and Commerce
"Indeed I have ventured to suggest that the [British East India] company, was modeled
on the Hanseatic League, as the League was no doubt modeled on
the Italian Cities and they perhaps on Carthage. Thus we
find the Venetian Navigation Law becomes the German Law of
"Hanse goods on Hanse ships" and the law of the Merchants of England as
expressed in our Navigation Acts."
— Ian Colvin in The Unseen Hand in British History.
Most conventional histories focus on political, culture and military leaders while carefully shielding readers from the "behind-the-scenes" power brokers who actually control events. Kings and nobles had landed wealth and vassals, and those were critical assets. But in all ages, gold has held a special place, and those that could purchase luxuries, cajole kings, bribe politicians, and provision armies had tremendous influence.
A good place to look for backstage operators is among those who control the gold. In other words, merchants, and money-lenders. Secret societies have exerted their influence by controlling commerce, credit, and precious metals since ancient times so histories that focus on trade and banking provide useful insights. Such histories never explicitly identify the occult nature of these operations, but they often mention secret oaths and rituals, monopolies, espionage, piracy, mercenary armies, bribery, boycotts, blackmail, racketeering, and other suspicious activities.
Since ancient times, European trade has been controlled by merchant associations patterned after their Phoenician forebearers. For centuries they have dominated commerce and horded gold using methods of deception, corruption, and coercion that are common tactics of secret societies.
The Medieval Trading Monopolies — The two most notable commercial monopolies of the Middle Ages were the network of traders associated with Venice in the Mediterranean, and the League of 'Hansa' cities that controlled trade in the North and Baltic Seas. Venice was an independent and prosperous trading center during Medieval times, and became enormously powerful during the Crusading era, largely at the expense of the Byzantine Empire. It's role in the Fourth Crusade, for example, was particularly reprehensible, and its leaders were notoriously scheming and treacherous.
The Hansa League of Northern Germany was no less opportunistic. They monopolized trade in the North Sea and Baltic for centuries, controlled dozens of northern cities, and were the bankers of England and the Holy Roman Empire. The league established the 'Steelyard' in England that evolved into the "City of London" trading center and dominated all commerce in Scandinavia and Russia until the 16th century. The earliest histories of both Venice and the Hansa league have been intentionally obscured, but both associations were known to engage in strange rituals and oaths, piracy, bizarre worship practices, and other disturbing behaviors.

The 'Merchant Adventurers' of Britain. By the 18th century, the trading and banking associations of Britain had come to dominate world commerce. The story of how this came about is complicated and shrouded in misinformation and secrecy, but the following books provide some insights into the rise of English trading companies and the 'British Empire.' More research on all topics related to the "City of London" financial center and "East India Company" trading cabal is needed.

The Vatican
The Catholic Church has a long and complicated relationship with the 'Synagogue of Satan.' There is no question that the Church condemns Secret Societies and that the vast majority of Christians are faithful to the truths of the Church and enemies of everything Secret Societies stand for. Unfortunately, certain religious orders and members of the Catholic hierarchy have been infiltrated with subversives and saboteurs, and they have done great harm.
Catholicism Opposing Secret Societies — We have seen that many Catholics have taken a leadership role in researching and opposing secret societies and occult organizations. The books of some these faithful priests are listed in the Freemasonry section above. In addition, books such as Pinay's Plot Against the Church do an excellent job of presenting the Church's long war against heresy and subversion.

Secret Societies Subverting Catholicism — Unfortunately, there is considerable evidence that secret societies have infiltrated Church leadership, particularly during recent centuries. We are therefore presenting several books that allege serious corruption in the highest levels of the Church, not out of distain, but out concern and openness to the truth. Our own research appears to indicate that the leadership of the Jesuit Order has long been infiltrated, but Faithful Catholics should do their own research and draw their own conclusions.

Wars and Revolutions
At Heritage History we are interested, not just in the 'Big Picture' of how Secret Societies influence history in general, but in the details of how they have affected individual leaders, nations, and conflicts. We are currently working on a Wars and Revolutions page that provides links to specific events of interest. Hopefully this will be a useful resource for researchers.
Great fortunes are made during times of upheaval. Conflicts result in enormous changes in the possession of property and the expansion of debt. Nations borrow money to fund wars and to rebuild after wars. Long held personal property is often destroyed, confiscated, or sold at a great loss. There is a direct link between those who benefit financially from conflicts and those who work behind the scenes to foment wars and revolutions.
"The time to buy is when there
is blood in the street."
Baron Rothschild
Wars and Revolutions that have been fomented, funded, and controlled by secret societies include almost all major conflicts in the last two hundred and fifty years. Most modern wars—including all those listed below—have begun as a result of a "false flag" or provocation that can be traced to secret powers who benefit from conflict and upheaval. Additional information about specific conflicts is available at the links below.

From Congressional Testimony of T. Cushing Daniels, Comptroller of the U.S. Treasury circa. 1918
"When going through the Bank of England I presented a letter which I had from Secretary Hay,
and the official of the bank was very polite. He took me through the bank and when we got
back to the reception room I asked him if he would allow me to put a few leading
questions to him. He said he would, and I asked him if he would give me a statement
of the Bank of England.
B.E.: 'We do not issue statements.'
Daniel: 'Does not the House of Parliament sometimes call on you for some statement as to the condition of
the bank?'
B.E.: 'No, sir; they do not call on us.' . . . .
Daniel: 'How is it that some of these revolutionists, so-called, do not get up in the House of Commons
and raise the devil to know something about what is going on down here?
That would be the condition in our country.'
B.E.: 'Oh most of them are large borrowers from the bank,
and we have no difficulty with them.'
(laughter.)"
