Iraq’s Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes: Soldier of Suleimani (R.A.), Soldier of Islam, Protector of Syria, Champion Of Anti-Zionism

by Jonathan Azaziah

Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.), chief of Kata’ib Hizbullah and second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (Hashd al-Shaabi), loudly and proudly described himself as a “soldier of Hajj Qassem Suleimani”. The Quds Force Chief (R.A.), in turn, described himself as a “soldier of Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes”. They had been friends since the days they were side-by-side in the Imposed War. Not merely brothers-in-arms. More like Brotherly Soul Mates. Halves of the same whole, reunited through revolutionary commonality. That they were martyred together in the US-‘Israeli’ raid on Baghdad Airport isn’t just fitting… It’s a piece of poetry that could only have been scripted by The Divine Fashioner (SWT). Allahu Akbar!

Born Jamal Jafaar Muhammadi Ali al-Ibrahimi to an Iraqi father and an Iranian mother on July 1st, 1954 in Basra, and better known by his kunya, Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (The Engineer), this Mouqawamah Maestro had been awash in righteousness from his earliest days. He gravitated towards Islam and had a love that was as deep as it was pure for the Holy Qur’an and Ahlul Bayt (A.S.), always eager to memorize a new Surah or discover a new Mouqawamistic aspect of the lives of the Imams (A.S.) He was concerned not with fun and playing as a child, only Islam. His first inclination was to join the hawza and train to be a scholar – maybe even achieving the rank of Ayatollah! – either in Najaf or Qom, and he perhaps would’ve been exactly that if it weren’t for the anti-Islamic campaigns routinely launched by successive Baathist regimes in Iraq. He opted out to study engineering not as an alternative career path at all, but because he thought it would be the best means of aiding the Islamic revolutionary current rising regionwide thanks to Imam Khomeini (R.A.)

He completed those studies in 1977 and joined Iraq’s Dawa Party, serving as one of the officers who recruited the shabab that, like him, loved Islam as well as the school of thought of the Holy Prophet’s Household (A.S.) and were chomping at the bit to fight against US-backed Baathism in Iraq and Zio-Imperialism generally. Al-Mohandes (R.A.) was picked up and tortured no less than half a dozen times by the thugs of deceased dictator Saddam Hussein prior to temporarily leaving Iraq to aid the revolutionaries against the brutal, monstrous Shah in Iran. Never did he waver. Without hesitation or much contemplation, when Saddam Hussein launched the Imposed War, invading Iran on September 22nd, 1980 at the behest of Washington, “Tel Aviv” and the Khaleeji Khanazeer, Abou Mahdi (R.A.) decided he would stand for truth; he’d stand for adalah (the justice of justices); he’d stand against falsehood; and he’d stand against zolm (the injustice of injustices). Regardless of his Iraqi heritage, he would fight on the nascent Islamic Republic of Iran’s side. And fight he did, fiercely, bravely and brilliantly, much of the time right next to none other than Hajj Qassem Suleimani (R.A.)

A large part of his life during and following the Imposed War, due to the sensitive nature of his work as a Jihadi General and Leader of Liberation, is deliberately shrouded in mystery. He stands accused by the American ZOG and its marionettes of attacking US, French and Khaleeji embassies in the Gulf, even being convicted in absentia by the Kuwaiti dictatorship for these alleged crimes, but the evidence, not surprisingly, is flimsy at the absolute best. Like his friend, partner-in-resistance and fellow Shahid al-Kbeer Hajj Imad Mughniyeh (R.A.), he’s also accused of multiple kidnappings, but the evidence here as well, is all but nonexistent. In reality, Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.) was a knightly figure whose only lot in life was resisting the psychotic, bloodthirsty, Judaic-run Empire that had imposed tyranny, war, terror and occupation on both of his respective homelands. He slept, ate and breathed undermining Washington and “Tel Aviv” at every turn. It’s for this reason, like his Brotherly Soul Mate Hajj Qassem (R.A.), that Mossad and CIA plotted to kill him for over two decades. And yet again, like an Iraqi mirror image of Hajj Qassem (R.A.), outside of Islam itself, nothing was more important than liberating Al-Quds from the Zionist cancer and he hustled night and day to achieve martyrdom in this struggle.

It’s well-known that after spending the 90s in Iran, working with Suleimani (R.A.) in the Quds Force, including in assisting Hizbullah free Lebanon from ‘Israel’, he returned to Iraq following the criminal US invasion to aid the IRGC and a team of Hizbullah operatives led by Hajj Imad Mughniyeh (R.A.) in training Iraqi youth to fend off the rapists and plunderers. He ran in the parliamentary elections in 2005 and won a Babel Province seat as a cover for his Mouqawamah activity. Using his connections on the battlefields and in the halls of transitioning and shifting political power, he was instrumental in the removal of US and UK colonizers from Iraq’s south and also was the driving force — repeat, THE DRIVING FORCE — behind the humiliation of US occupation forces in 2011, with a massive chunk of them departing Iraqi soil. This is despite the fact he once more had to temporarily relocate to Iran following an attempt on his life by occupation terrorists from the US Marines. This failed killing only heightened his status among the Iraqi people and cemented him as a Moujahid even loftier than previously conceived. He ascended in national and international consciousness, all while Western ZOGs and the usurping Jewish bacteria in Palestine screeched and barked over their blunders.

Of equal gravity is his critical maneuvering on Syria. It was The Engineer (R.A.) who coordinated the entry of all Iraqi Resistance groups into the Syrian fray – Liwa Abou Fadhl al-Abbas, Kata’ib Hizbullah, Harakat Hizbullah al-Nujaba and Kata’ib Imam Ali – to protect the Sayyeda Zaynab (A.S.) and Sayyeda Rouqayah (A.S.) shrines, as well as fully back the Syrian Arab Army and the NDF in the battle against the US-‘Israeli’-NATO-created Takfiri insurgency. Not even Hizbullah and the IRGC were on the ground from day one (although they were present in the war rooms in key advisory positions). That distinction belongs to the Iraqi Resistance. Later, these Mouqawameen would prove to be indispensable in the liberation of Aleppo, Syria’s second city, leading the way in dealing the death-blow to the Zionist conspiracy against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the Resistance Axis as a whole. And none of it would have been possible without the strategic genius of Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.) This was obviously replicated in the Iraqi arena also, where the Beam of Basra (R.A.) was the gauntlet to Hajj Qassem’s (R.A.) fist as they beat back Yahoudi-spawned ISIS.

What isn’t as well-known is the role Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.) played in aiding the Palestinian Resistance. As Qassem Suleimani’s (R.A.) other Mouqawamist half and a long-time IRGC stalwart, the Iridescence of Iraq (R.A.) represented the Iraqi cog in the Resistance Machine which was responsible for engaging in daring smuggling operations to deliver arms to the Palestinian Mouqawamah both in Gaza, and prior to the criminal Jewish supremacist enclave’s building of the Hafrada Wall, the occupied West Bank and Al-Quds.

Enshrined in the imperative article by Committed Resistance Observer Hassan Illeik, “How Hamas Gets Its Weapons”, we became aware of a covert unit of Iranian, Lebanese-Hizbullahi, and Syrian specialists who would traverse smuggling routes that included Sudan (prior to it being bought out by the accursed, crypto-Judaic House of Saud), and Egypt’s Sinai, ultimately ensuring that the weapons shipments arrived in Palestinian hands. Al-Mohandes (R.A.) ran a small but tremendously efficient group of Iraqis that aided this effort in spades. In this vein, he is also said to have been key in helping now-martyred Hizbullah Commander Fawzi Ayyoub (R.A.) break out of a Zionist jail. As if the Brightness of Basra (R.A.) wasn’t legendary enough.

Iran. Lebanon. Iraq. Syria. Palestine. Victories in each nation thanks to this Mighty Mouqawem. Indeed, etched in blood, stone and soil is the undying legacy of Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.) Not merely an Iraqi martyr; nor an Iranian martyr; nor just a Resistance Axis martyr, but a martyr for the entirety of the Ummah. An intellectual, political, artistic, military and spiritual guide whose way we can follow not just for this time… But all-time.

On a personal note, being Iraqi, seeing Azrael (A.S.) make the call for The Engineer (R.A.), is certainly difficult to accept. It’s like LOSING your pops, your uncle, your gramps and your ace all at once. But paradoxically, it’s also akin to GAINING an angel of the highest rank–a War Angel who will be watching over our land and our people while guiding our truest moujahideen until Youm al-Qiyamah arrives. He’s with Ayatollah Sayyed Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr (R.A.) now; with Shahida Bint al-Houda, Sayyeda Amina Haydar al-Sadr (R.A.); with Imam Khomeini (R.A.); and most beautifully, with Hajj Qassem Suleimani (R.A.) Making note of this and taking it to heart, how could we be anything remotely resembling upset? Indeed, being an Iraqi, all I can do is smile.

Like Lady Zaynab (A.S.) declared in the wake of the massacre of her family at Karbala, “I saw nothing but beauty. It was ALLAH’s (SWT) wish that they should be martyred, and they met their deaths valiantly.” I can’t – and could never – think of more apt words to say than those today. ALLAH yerhamak habibi Abou Mahdi al-Mohandes (R.A.) We are in your debt. We are at your service. Iraq didn’t know it was capable of feeling such pride. Please give our salaams to Imam Hussein (A.S.) and strengthen our swords as we relentlessly move forward in your ever-present memory.
