Failing the children of California

A new law decriminalizing child prostitution puts children at greater risk

ANALYSIS/OPINION:
At the start of each new year we’re subjected to a whole host of new laws. The modern liberal government, you see, imagines itself not as the champion of individual freedom but as Mommy and Daddy, a taskmaster charged with controlling your life. Most of the time, it makes everything, including our lives, worse.

Case in point: California. Completely at the mercy of the left, which now controls two-thirds of the state government, California serves as a living illustration of what the left really wants to accomplish. As of Jan. 1, that includes decriminalizing what is commonly called “child prostitution.”

They may not have technically legalized it, but decriminalizing the act per se will have the same results, while putting exploited children in even more danger.
First, let’s make one thing clear right now: There is no such thing as “child prostitution.” The fact is we’re dealing with the sex trafficking of girls and boys. This isn’t some horror reserved for Thailand or some other far-off place — it’s happening right here in the United States.

More than 1,000 children are arrested each year for prostitution, with estimates of sex trafficking involving 100,000 to 2.4 million children. Concerned Women for America reports, “The United States Department of Justice uses the number 293,000 as the estimate for youth ‘at risk’ of being commercially sexually exploited.”

The fact that these children are victims is not disputed, but what California has just done makes the problem even worse.

'I didn't think of Iraqis as humans,' says U.S. soldier who raped 14-year-old girl before killing her and her family

Steven Green, pictured in April 2009, is serving five life sentences for rape and murder in Iraq. He has launched appeal but doesn't have 'much hope' of ever being freed
An Iraq War veteran serving five life terms for raping and killing a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and killing her parents and sister says he didn't think of Iraqi civilians as humans after being exposed to extreme warzone violence.
Steven Green, a former 101st Airborne soldier, in his first interview since the 2006 killings, claimed that his crimes were fuelled in part by experiences in Iraq's violent 'Triangle of Death' where two of his sergeants were gunned down.
He also cited a lack of leadership and help from the Army.
'I was crazy,' Green said in the exclusive telephone interview from federal prison in Tucson, Arizona. 'I was just all the way out there. I didn't think I was going to live.'
Green talked about what led up to the March 12, 2006, attack on a family near Mahmoudiya, Iraq, that left him serving five consecutive life sentences.
The former soldier, who apologised at sentencing for his crimes, said he wasn't seeking sympathy nor trying to justify his actions - killings prosecutors described at trial in 2009 as one of the worst crimes of the Iraq war.
But Green said people should know his actions were a consequence of his circumstances in a war zone.
'If I hadn't ever been in Iraq, I wouldn't be in the kind of trouble I'm in now,' Green said. 'I'm not happy about that.'
Green was discharged with a 'personality disorder' before federal charges were brought against him.
Prosecutors sought a death sentence, but a federal jury in Paducah, Kentucky, opted for five life sentences on charges including the rape and murder of 14-year-old Abeer Qassim Al-Janabi and the shooting deaths of her mother, father and younger sister.
Four other soldiers were convicted in military court for various roles in the attack. Three remain in military prison.
Green is challenging the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, which allows the federal government to charge an American in civilian court for alleged crimes committed overseas. He was the first former soldier convicted under the statute. The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals has scheduled arguments for January 21.
Green is challenging the constitutionality of that law, saying it gives the executive branch too much leeway over whom to prosecute. Prosecutors say the law should be upheld.
'I've got some hope, but I'm not delusional about it,' said Green, now 25. 'I hope it works. But, whenever they give you multiple life sentences, they're not planning on letting you out.'
Green didn't testify at trial. During sentencing, he apologized and said he expects to face 'God's justice' when he dies.

A 19-year-old high school dropout from Midland, Texas, Green joined the Army after obtaining his high school equivalency diploma from a correspondence school.
He said signing up was easy, born of a sense of duty to defend his country and the opportunities that offered.
'I thought I'd be neglecting my duty if I didn't,' Green said. 'You've got a career, you've got a job. It gives you opportunities to do things with your life.'
The military placed Green with the Fort Campbell-based 101st Airborne. Upon arriving in Iraq, Green said, his training to kill, the rampant violence and derogatory comments by other soldiers against Iraqis served to dehumanise that country's civilian population.
A turning point came on December 10, 2005, Green said, when a previously friendly Iraqi approached a traffic checkpoint and opened fire.
The shots killed Staff Sgt. Travis L. Nelson, 41, instantly. Sgt. Kenith Casica, 32, was hit in the throat. Casica died as soldiers raced him aboard a Humvee to a field hospital.
Green said those deaths 'messed me up real bad.'
The deaths intensified Green's feelings toward all Iraqis, whom soldiers often called by a derogatory term. 'There's not a word that would describe how much I hated these people,' Green said. 'I wasn't thinking these people were humans.'

Neighbour Hussein Mohammed points to the charred and blood-splattered crime scene where the killings took place in Mahmoudiya, Iraq

Over the next four months, Green sought help from a military stress counsellor, obtaining small doses of a mood-regulating drug - and a directive to get some sleep before returning to his checkpoint south of Baghdad.
In the interview, Green described alcohol and drugs being prevalent at the checkpoint. Green said soldiers there frequently felt abandoned by the Army and were given little support after the deaths of Casica and Nelson.
Spc. James P. Barker of Fresno, California, testified that he pitched the idea of going to the al-Janabi family's home to Sgt. Paul E. Cortez of Barstow, California, who was in charge of the traffic checkpoint.

Green, who talked frequently of wanting to kill Iraqis, was brought along.
Cortez testified that Barker and Green had the idea of having sex with the girl and that he didn't know the family would be killed.
Green, then a private, saidhe had 'an altered state of mind' at the time. 'I wasn't thinking about more than 10 minutes into the future at any given time,' Green said. 'I didn't care.'
At the Iraqi home, Barker and Cortez pulled Abeer into one room, while Green held the mother, father and youngest daughter in another.
Pfc. Jesse V. Spielman, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, stood guard in the hall. As Barker and Cortez raped the teen, Green shot the three family members, killing them.
He then went into the next room and raped Abeer, before shooting her in the head. The soldiers lit her remains on fire before leaving. Another soldier stood watch a few miles away at the checkpoint.
Since his sentencing on September 4, 2009, Green has been attacked at the federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, and was then transferred to Arizona.
In prison, Green converted to Catholicism and has corresponded with a nun in Louisville about his faith.
Green described prison life as a 'lonely existence' and said other inmates consider those convicted of sex offenses among the lowest, making life 'hazardous' among the general prison population.
For Green, each day is just a matter of getting through 24 hours so he can do it all again the next day. Meanwhile, he lives with memories of the attack that took away the Iraqi family.
'If I thought that was an OK thing now, I wouldn't be much of a human being,' Green said.

Pâque israélite ou juive or Pâques chrétiennes, what is the difference?
Both have to do with human blood sacrifice!
The first one celebrates the mass murder of all the Egyptian first born!
The second one celebrates the blood sacrifice of innocence in order to save humanity!
But, did it?
Did it save the world from eternal damnation, slavery, injustice, persecution, terror, immorality, theft, torture, mass murder, DECEIT and utter degeneration of everything human and natural?
NO, it did not!

Happy Pâque & Pâques

TAMIL FOLKLORE ON AMERICAN WARS!

THIS WAS AMERICA ONCE!

Americans were given the constitutional right to keep and bear arms against their government when the latter became tyrannical or dictatorial, but they chose instead to ask for money from gullible people in order to fight their corrupt government, and yet IT NEVER PRODUCES ANY POSITIVE RESULTS!

The toughest letter I’ve ever sent

Ron Paul
To Me

Today 22 April 2014 at 1:20 AM

Campaign for Liberty

Dear Patriot,

This is one of the toughest letters I’ve ever had to send.

For years, people have joked that the three most feared letters in the English language may well be these . . .

I – R – S.

But today, I’m not laughing.

Just days ago, the IRS handed Campaign for Liberty a hefty fine and DEMANDED we turn over sensitive contributor information.

If we don’t comply with the IRS’ outrageous demand for sensitive donor information, I’m afraid we’ll face additional fines that could cripple Campaign for Liberty and perhaps even force us to shut our doors.

But, Patriot, I’m not naïve. I know where this is headed.

The statists at the IRS know I’ll NEVER EVER turn over confidential information about Campaign for Liberty’s donors without a fight.

Instead, this is likely just the first in a long line of UNCONSTITUTIONAL and likely ILLEGAL “excuses” this rogue government agency will use to try to shut us up and shut us down by FINING us to death.

So I have a decision to make - a critical decision that could affect Campaign for Liberty’s very survival in the months ahead.

Do I fight on? Do I risk everything? Do I tell the statist IRS to go fly a kite?

Or should Campaign for Liberty just pay up, keep our head down, and hope this never happens again?

Patriot, I need you to tell me what to do today.

In just a second, I’m going to give you a link to a Campaign for Liberty Supporter Ballot.

As you’ll see, there will only be two choices on the form - the only two choices I’m faced with today.

But before you decide, please let me explain everything that’s at stake . . .

As I mentioned, what the IRS wants is contributor information on Campaign for Liberty’s top donors, pointing to a rarely enforced and unconstitutional bureaucratic rule.

You see, as a 501(c)(4) organization under IRS law, all Campaign for Liberty contributor information is supposed to be confidential.

This is a critical protection I wholeheartedly support.

Privacy and liberty go hand-in-hand.

In fact, when Thomas Paine published his pamphlet Common Sense in 1776, he did so anonymously.

Forcing organizations like Campaign for Liberty to publicize donor information would have an incredibly chilling effect on political speech.

Many liberty-loving Americans would silence themselves for fear of becoming targets of political “retribution.”

And after the Obama IRS was caught red-handed targeting pro-limited government groups for harassment and intimidation, these fears could not be more well-founded.

So there’s no way I would ever just hand this kind of information over to these government bureaucrats. That’s not an option.

So when we filed annual reports with the IRS as required by law, we left this information off.

The IRS now claims that’s the reason we’re being fined!

But the truth is, years ago, after the NAACP complied with IRS demands and promptly saw their donor information publicized, the IRS has only occasionally sought to “enforce” their ridiculous rule.

Patriot, the real reason they’re coming after Campaign for Liberty I’m afraid is something far more sinister.

After all, there’s no denying our Liberty Movement is growing.

Only a few years ago, you and I were barely a “blip” on the political screen.

But there’s no denying things have changed, when you consider:

*** Today, we see a growing crop of new Liberty Movement supporters like Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the U.S. Senate;

*** In the U.S. House, there’s Congressmen Justin Amash (R-MI) and Thomas Massie (R-KY).

*** My son, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), is now considered a frontrunner for President in 2016!

*** Audit the Fed is now a top issue in American politics;

*** The bipartisan National Internet Tax Mandate and the National ID database scheme were supposed to sail through Congress, but you and I have so far held them both off;

*** More and more Americans now oppose radical federal government spying programs and - as we saw with Syria - are more skeptical than ever of foreign military adventurism.

Liberty-minded Americans’ efforts are at the heart of all this success.

I’m convinced these are just the beginning stages of a massive nationwide R3VOLUTION that can usher in a new era of liberty and limited government in America.

Patriot, that’s why we’re being targeted.

That’s why the statists in BOTH parties want so much to shut us up and shut us down.

I’m afraid, without your support today, they could very well get their wish.

I have no doubt if these ridiculous demands made it to court, Campaign for Liberty would win, hands down.

But I’m afraid that’s not what this is about.

Campaign for Liberty is run on a shoestring budget. We don’t have millions lying around in the bank.

This is about draining us.

This is about forcing me to take resources off of other critical programs just to keep our doors open.

That’s why I want so badly to just say “NO!”

But without an IMMEDIATE influx of funds, I’m afraid we’ll be sitting ducks.

I just won’t be able to pay for everything . . .

But the alternative could be worse.

Paying this outrageous extortionist fine - just to exercise our rights as American citizens to petition our government - may even be cheaper in the short run.

But it’ll just embolden an alphabet soup of other federal agencies to come after us.

Patriot, this is the price you pay for daring to stand up to a federal government that wants to keep taxing, spending, and printing every American into the poorhouse.

So what do I do?

Won’t you please fill out your Campaign for Liberty Supporter Ballot right away?

I’m going to ask my staff to tally up the votes, and I will proceed as C4L’s generous members and supporters tell me to.

The decision is in your hands.

But Patriot, if you tell me to fight, please realize this is serious.

Any potential legal fight is going to take money - money Campaign for Liberty does not have lying around.

So I must ask you to be as generous as you possibly can.

I must ask you to please agree to an emergency gift of $30.

I know that’s a lot.

But this is the IRS we’re talking about. This is not a game.

As I mentioned, this is one of the hardest letters I’ve ever had to send.

I have to ask all Campaign for Liberty supporters to go above and beyond what they’ve done in the past.

But if $30 is just too much, won’t you please agree to $20 or at least $10?

I’m anxiously awaiting your response.

This is not something I can just put off for a later day. I need to hear from you right away.

So please fill out your Campaign for Liberty Supporter Ballot and agree to your most generous gift of $30, $20, or at least $10 today.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul
Chairman

P.S. Just days ago, Campaign for Liberty received a letter fining us and DEMANDING we turn over sensitive contributor information to the IRS.

The statists’ goal is to cripple Campaign for Liberty and perhaps even force us to shut our doors.

So I need you to tell me what to do.

Below you’ll find a link to your Campaign for Liberty Supporter Ballot. Please tell me how I should respond to this new IRS threat.

And if you possibly can, please agree to your most generous gift of $30, $20, or at least $10 to help us be ready to fight back TODAY!

The Martinez Perspective Ep. 5: Vladimir Putin -- Moral Actor or Machiavellian Realist?

Brandon Martinez Brandon Martinez·
Published on 21 Apr 2014

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8VrkHgyqe0

On this episode of The Martinez Perspective, host Brandon Martinez is joined by journalist and radio host Joshua Blakeney. The focus of this discussion was the dogmatism of the Left, how ideologues discard facts and truths that do not coincide with their ideology, Zionist militarism, neocon wars and the role of Vladimir Putin's Russia in world affairs.

Is Vladimir Putin a "hero" as some anti-Zionists view him to be? Is he a moral actor or a Machiavellian realist motivated purely by self-interest and economic considerations?

Martinez and Blakeney discuss and debate Putin's motivations and whether or not the view of Putin as "good guy" is parochial and superficial. They also discussed the merits and drawbacks of realism vs. idealism and the dichotomy of being an activist vs. an intellectual.

Should we prioritize certain independence struggles over others? For example, is the Chechen struggle for self-determination from Russia fundamentally different from that of the Palestinians? Should we place some victims of imperial governments above others on a quasi-caste system of victimhood? And how is that compatible with a moral universalist outlook?

All of these interesting concepts and ideas are discussed on the show. Don't miss this one!

OUR DEAR AND BELOVED MICHAEL COLLINS PIPER HAVING HEART SURGERY!  PRAY FOR HIM!

Ed note–Tomorrow morning MCP is going in for some very serious heart surgery and therefore tonight’s program featuring a special segment with him is free.

The recent flyers distributed in Ukraine calling for Jews to ‘register’–another Judaic false flag or a maneuver on Putin’s part to discredit all past and future Zionist operations?

It was, “our side”, that did this. It was Fatmouthed-Fetzer, and those who believe whatever that half-drunken idiot has to say. It was all who follow Fetzer. It was others within AFP, who really screwed with MCP. I find these people despicable.
I wish the whole lot of them would, minimally, apologize for their actions and attitude. But, I don’t see that coming. It’s terrible. It’s wrong. And it makes plenty of people even more leary about being around these folk. Heck, it makes me want to stay away from most of them.

Sent him an email; but he says he has no access to the Net. He’s in my prayers.
I think you’re right, Mark: it was Russian secret service. They know this beast inside-out. I bet the Mossad, the ADL, even Netanyahu are all pi$$ed. Putin: always several moves ahead.

My true well wishes for MCP.
I consider you a true friend of Islam and am aware of your good opinion of the Caliphate states at least the ones that were run with justice.
The true friendship between MCP and Mark is heartwarming.
Hope to experience the many battles that you will win against the enemies of true peace and the architects of corruption.
Will send a little prayer up, tonight.

I imagine the surgery is over by now, and recovery can begin.. Keep us informed MG..
Did anyone read the item on Lasha Darkmoon`s site, which indicates that not even the elderly are spared the jewish degredation of society. A jew owned care home forces the elderly to watch strippers, and the staff encourages the old dears to stuff dollar bills in the strippers underpants..

    DEAR YOU ALL
I was invited today by a very dear friend who passionately loves Michael Collins Piper to pray for him. Yes, Michael is one of “us” (a few others and me), but I never had any direct contact with this gentleman who seemingly does not even know I exist. Suffice to know that he is a very good and close friend with my adopted Brother Mark Glenn and a great fighter for the truth, and I never fail my true friends.
The invitation from Michael’s most devoted friend was to pray for his recovery and not to come on “The Ugly Truth” that I had left in ‘very good hands’ last year to be again exposed to the same crazies (I do not have time to find a more appropriate term!) I had to deal with more than a year ago.
Unfortunately, I see that Michael’s “broken heart” seems to have had also other unknown to me causes (but known to others) than the usual medical ones. I saw one name revealed here, but I do not give a damn about those human causes because several years ago I saw Michael already presenting some clear signs and symptoms (given my basic medical training) that could have eventually lead to some kind of heart problem and even eventual failure, God forbid. Who is guaranteed to never have a heart failure in their lives?
I thought it was only about “praying” for the great human being that Michael is, but it seems that there is more to it than a simple health problem. By the way I never stop praying for the innocent and the fighters for truth, justice and a moral way of life.
It was not my intention to talk about any other matter here, but I had to listen to Mark’s entire talk in order to see what part of it concerned Michael, and heard something about Islam that I felt was not right in my view. I may be wrong though.
To my knowledge, Islam does not say Christ was not crucified (put on a stake or cross to die!), but that (in translation) THEY (THE YAHUD, THE BANI ISRA’IL) KILLED HIM NOT and God saved him and “took him up to Him” whatever that means.
Even if Mark does not allow this ‘well thought’ response of mine on “THE UGLY TRUTH” after more than a year of total silence, I do not care as this will be posted on my Blog and made ‘public’ and sent to my dear friend who is very concerned about Michael’s health.
    http://muhammad-ali-ben-marcus.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/western-civilisation-nice-smelling-shit.html
Further, at this point it is not out of place to point out to whoever is interested that I deplore the fact that Michael (or Reverend Mark Dankoff or Jonathan Azaziah for that matter) never found the time or the necessity to acknowledge or refute any of the arguments I posted on “The Ugly Truth” regarding issues that we were all interested in as if they had a monopoly on “the truth” – and I dare say that I know the real reason(s).
Yes, of course, all of us who loved Michael will pray to whatever God or Gods, but the fact remains that true Believers in the One God know that God giveth and taketh life. So, Michael is in very good hands! In Michael’s case however, “prayers” alone will not suffice; some voodoo or Black (Jewish) magic may help! (Take this as a joke, if you wish!)
Now let us come down to Michael’s real health business as I have reached the part of the broadcast where Michael (from the hospital) is talking about not being afraid to meet his Creator, but I did not get why he had to mention Jim Fetzer and John Friend with such contempt in such circumstance. “I’m going to get them either way!” Obviously Michael is not only suffering from some serious heart problems, but also from the Fetzer-Friend and Hoax Syndromes! I have to acknowledge that I know next to nothing about those psychological disorders.
My very good friend and Brother Dr Kalim Siddiqui ((September 15, 1931 – April 18, 1996) who was hated by the entire western media had “two more heart attacks and two by-pass operations” and never stopped fighting until his heart failed at 62 (or some Devil helped him passed on the other side as is the custom in and of the Empire!) in Pretoria, Apartheid South Africa.
As with all our loved ones, our best wishes and prayers are with Michael Collins Piper and his loved ones – minus the politics.

My most sincere and best regards to my Brother Mark Glenn

THOSE STUPID MUSLIMS, THEY LOST EVERYTHING!
BUT, THANK GOD, ISLAM STILL EXISTS!

The First Muslim-American Scholar: Bilali Muhammad

An unfortunate misconception among today’s American Muslim community is that Islam has only been present in America for less than 100 years. Many American Muslims are children of immigrants who came to the United States from the Middle East and South Asia in the mid-nineteenth century, and thus wrongly assume that the first Muslims in America were those immigrants. The reality, however, is that Islam has been in America for far longer than that. Besides possible pre-Colombian Muslim explorers from al-Andalus and West Africa, Islam arrived on America’s shores in waves through the Atlantic slave trade from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries. While hundreds of thousands of slaves arrived in America during this time, the stories of only a few have been preserved and are known today. One of the most enduring and unique is that of Bilali Muhammad.

    The Slave Trade

A slave auction advertisement from Charleston, South Carolina in 1769.
A slave auction advertisement from Charleston, South Carolina in 1769.

As European nations began to colonize the New World in the 1500s, a demand for cheap labor arose. Plantations, mines, and farms needed workers throughout North and South America, and the native population of the New World proved unsuitable due to their lack of immunity to European diseases. As a result, European powers such as Britain, France, Portugal, and Spain looked south, towards Africa, for a source of slave labor they could exploit.
Thus, European slave traders began arriving at ports in Africa, looking to buy slaves. Generally, Europeans did not go and capture slaves themselves. Instead, they would commonly pay local rulers to go to war with other African states, capture warriors, and sell them to be taken to America. The African rulers would be paid commonly in weapons, which would further perpetuate the cycle of violence and enslavement. The entire system worked to handicap Africa’s social, political, and economic development, and the results of this genocide are still felt in Africa today.
Estimates vary, but over 12 million Africans were probably forcibly taken from their homelands to serve as slaves in America, with as many as 20% of them dying on the trans-Atlantic journey known as the Middle Passage. Since much of the slave trade was focused on West Africa, a large number of those slaves were undoubtedly Muslim. The savanna kingdoms of Mali and Songhai had long been centers of Islamic civilization in West Africa and a huge Muslim population existed in the region.

    Bilali Muhammad

One of the many Muslim slaves taken to America was Bilali Muhammad. He was from the Fulbe tribe and was born around 1770 in the city of Timbo, in what is now Guinea. He came from a well-educated family, and received a high level of education himself in Africa before being captured as a slave some time in the late 1700s. He was fluent in the Fula language along with Arabic, and had knowledge of high level Islamic studies, including Hadith, Shari’ah, and Tafsir. How he was captured is unknown, but he was originally taken to an island plantation in the Caribbean, and by 1802, he arrived at Sapelo Island, off the coast of Georgia in the southern United States.
At Sapelo Island, Bilali was fortunate enough to have Thomas Spalding as a slave owner. While conditions across the South were horrendous for slaves, who were forced to work throughout the day and were commonly denied such basic necessities as clothes and stable shelter, Spalding gave certain freedoms to his slaves that were absent elsewhere. He did not push the slaves to work more than six hours per day, had no white slave drivers, and even allowed his Muslim slaves to practice their religion openly, a rare freedom in the deeply Christian South. Bilali was even allowed to construct a small mosque on the plantation, which very well may have been the first mosque in North America.
Because of Bilali’s relatively high level of education, he rose to the top of the slave community, and was relied upon by his owner to take care of much of the administration of the plantation and its few hundred slaves. Perhaps the most remarkable account of Bilali Muhammad’s leadership and trustworthiness occurred during the War of 1812 between the United States and the United Kingdom. Spalding reportedly left the plantation with his family, fearing a British attack, and put Bilali in charge of the plantation’s defense. He even gave Bilali 80 muskets to defend the island with, which were distributed among the plantation’s Muslim population. Bilali kept true to his word and managed the plantation while his owner was gone and turned it back over to Spalding after the war. The fact that a slave owner trusted his slaves so much as to give them control of the plantation along with weapons speaks volumes about the character and trustworthiness of Bilali Muhammad.

    The Bilali Document

As a well-educated Muslim from West Africa, Bilali no doubt brought his Islamic education with him to America. This is evidenced by a thirteen-page manuscript he wrote and gifted to a southern writer, Francis Robert Goulding, before he died in 1857. The manuscript was written in Arabic, and was thus unreadable for most Americans for decades. It made its way eventually to the Georgia State Library by 1931, who attempted to decipher the manuscript, which was popularly believed to have been Bilali’s diary.

After years of effort that involved numerous scholars as far away as al-Azhar University in Egypt, scholars finally managed to decipher the manuscript. It turned out that it wasn’t a diary at all, but was actually a copy of passages from a treatise on Islamic law in the Maliki madhab written by a Muslim scholar of fiqh, Ibn Abu Zayd al-Qairawani in Tunisia in the 900s. The Risala of Ibn Abu Zayd was a part of the West African law curriculum prevalent in Bilali’s homeland in the 1700s when he was a student. When he came to America as a slave, he was of course unable to bring any personal belongings with him, and thus his copy of the Risala was written entirely from memory decades after he learned it in West Africa. This exemplifies the level of knowledge present in West Africa, even as it was ravaged by the Atlantic slave trade.
The Bilali Document is thus probably the first book of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) ever written in the United States. And while Islam slowly died out among the African American community in the United States in the nineteenth century, it is important to recognize and appreciate the stories of the the first American Muslims. They were not a small, inconsequential group. They numbered hundreds of thousands and despite almost insurmountable difficulties, they struggled to preserve their Islamic heritage under the oppression of slavery. The story of Bilali Muhammad is a perfect example of the efforts of this early American Muslim community, one that could inspire American Muslims of the present, whether they be of African descent or not.

    ABOUT THE SPEAKER -

Abdur Raheem Green was born in Dar-es-salaam in Tanzania. His father was a colonial administrator in the then extant British Empire. By the time he was walking the old colonies were getting their independence, and his family moved back to the UK. He was sent to a Roman Catholic Monastic boarding school, Gilling Castle and then onto Ampleforth College. It was there that he really started to question what life was all about and how much sense the traditions he was being brought up with really made.

It was while he was working in the City (London) that his delving into every aspect of spirituality, philosophy and psychology came to a head. It was then when he picked up a copy of the Quran and upon reading it he was convinced that it was revelation from God, and thus started his journey into Islam. This was in 1987. Since that time he has been involved in letting others know about Islam.

He is well known for his efforts at the renowned "Speaker's Corner" in London's Hyde Park. Currently, he is engaged in different activities including media work (Peace TV and Islam Channel)
