The Picatrix or Ghayat al Hakim, the Aim of the Wise, is one of the most important books ever written on astrological magic. Composed in Arabic in Andalusia around 1000 A.D., the Picatrix is an encyclopedic work, considerably larger than most other medieval grimoires or books of magic. It was translated into Latin in 1256 for the Castilian king Alfonso the Wise.
Picatrix is a strange mixture of the most exalted philosophy and the crassly material, explanations of the nature of the One and "confections" composed of blood, brains and urine. We can, however, clearly perceive the influence of the Harranian Sabians, who pursued their worship of the astral deities and the tradition of Hermetic philosophy well into the Middle Ages. The Harranians added much to the astrology of the advanced Islamic civilization which flourished between 800-1400 A.D., and produced such well known astrologers as Thabit Ibn Qurra, Al-Sufi and the alchemist, Jabir ibn Hayyyan, known to the West as Geber. The Latin critical edition of the complete Picatrix is currently out of print. I also offer a copy of the Latin Picatrix, the Sloane Ms 3679 version which was William Lilly's copy.
The partial English translation of a single Arabic manuscript of the Picatrix published by Ouroboros Press is currently out of print and reaching stratospheric prices on the antiquarian book market despite some significant problems with the translation. I offer a Picatrix Guide that "translates" the Ouroboros translation and provides useful additional information.

But Picatrix goes beyond what you would expect from a grimoire, it's just not sets of practical recipes, though lord knows there is lots and lots of practical info. Picatrix explains Hermetic and Neo-platonic philosophy and how talismans work, logically and coherently. This is also why this book was prized by the highest of high mages. As John likes to say, Picatrix truly represents the rocket science of the day. Astrological magic is complex, but this complexity gives it such great scope and great power. Iraq
says it wants back all the archeological treasures, stolen by US forces
in 2003, but Washington has offered to return only half.
Iraq rejected the offer made by the United States to bring back half of the Iraqi Jewish Archive, previously transferred from Baghdad to the United States during the US-led invasion of the country, insisting that Baghdad had to restore the whole archive, Iraqi newspaper al-Sabah reported on Sunday.
The archive includes centuries-old Torah scrolls and plenty of other documents in Hebrew, Arabic, and English.
Iraqi Tourism and Archaeology Minister Liwaa Smaisim reiterated that "it (the Iraqi Jewish Archive) is part of the Iraqi heritage," the ministry’s media office chief Hakim al-Shammari quoted him as saying.
On June 11, Smaisim said that the US had transferred the archive to Israel in addition to about 1,000 Iraqi antiquities.
The information angered archeologists and officials who accuse Washington of looting Iraq's cultural heritage, and dissuaded Iraqi authorities from continuing cultural cooperation with the US.
"The ministry recently suspended cooperation with the American universities and their excavation missions in the country," the Iraqi minister added.

ISLAM had excellent reasons to ban astrology and black and white magic practices, but it never ban learning about it in order to PROTECT Humankind from it!
ReplyDeleteBy not learning about it and by not mastering this science (the strongest among us), Muslims allowed the Devil worshippers to rule the world and rule over all the unprotected Muslim nations.
Muslims committed the great blunder of always talking and preaching about GOD while at the same time ignoring completely the very existence of Evil (Shaytaan) that is found in each and every one of us (except for the very few who have reached a very high level of spirituality and knowledge) and its misdeeds on planet earth.
This applies to Christians as well!
If we have so much difficulty in proving that GOD really exists, it is a lot easier to prove that SATAN exists as we have seen him involved in non stop wars where millions of innocent and defenceless people are exterminated in Satanic Ritual Sacrifices, by the West, Israel, the Jews, Hindus, Chinese and Russians - while Christians and Muslims are leaving their respective religion by the millions!
