Speaking on Monday, Pope Benedict said that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behaviour was as important as protecting the environment.
The comments were "irresponsible and unacceptable", the UK's Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement (LGCM) said.
Vladimir Luxuria, a transgender former Italian MP, called his words "hurtful".
The row erupted as news emerged that the pontiff is to pay his first visit to the Holy Land in May next year.
'Self-destruction'
Pope Benedict made the comments in an end-of-year speech to senior Vatican staff.
Defending God's creation was not limited to saving the environment, he said, but also about protecting man from himself.
It was not "out-of-date metaphysics" to "speak of human nature as 'man' or woman'", he said. It came from the "language of creation, despising which would mean self-destruction for humans".

said Government plans to introduce same-sex marriage would lead to a
clash between its law - that marriage is between a man and a woman - and
that of Parliament.
It also claimed several "major elements" of the proposals had not been thought through properly and were not legally "sound".
The Rt Rev Tim Stevens, Bishop of Leicester, said the Church of England had been supportive of civil partnerships when the legislation was introduced eight years ago.
"We continue to be supportive of the gay community and want to see that inclusion in our society increased and developed," he said.
"I think the difficulty we have here is the substitution of equality for uniformity, that is to say that there can be no distinction at all between men and women."
Under the current law, anyone who is resident in England has a legal right to marry in his or her Church of England parish church irrespective of religious affiliation and the minister of the parish is under a legal duty to conduct the marriage.
The Government's consultation on gay marriage closes on Thursday.
The Church of England's highly critical response will add to pressure on David Cameron, who has spoken out in support of gay marriage.
Mr Cameron has come under fire from supporters of the proposals for allowing a free vote amongst Tory MPs to avoid a rebellion over the issue.
But other Tory critics have said they view the proposal as a Liberal Democrat policy distracting the Government from bigger challenges.
Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall, which campaigns for gay rights, said: "There's manifestly no evidence that the recognition of long-term same-sex relationships has any impact on the institution of marriage for heterosexuals.
"It seems odd that the Church of England should be obsessing about a few thousand gay couples once again when there are currently three million children in Britain living in single-parent households."
A Home Office spokesman said: "The purpose of the equal civil marriage consultation is to enable us to listen to all views, including those of all religions.
"We welcome the Church of England's response and we will be carefully considering all points of view before publishing the outcome of the consultation later in the year."

The Canadian government has ordered a Christian pastor to renounce his faith and never again express moral opposition to homosexuality, according to a new report.
In a decision handed down just days ago in the penalty phase of the quasi-judicial proceedings run by the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal, evangelical pastor Stephen Boisson was banned from expressing his biblical perspective of homosexuality and ordered to pay $5,000 for "damages for pain and suffering" as well as apologize to the activist who complained of being hurt.
According to a report from Pete Vere at the Catholic Exchange, the penalty could foreshadow the possible fate of Father Alphonse de Valk, who also has cited the biblical perspective on homosexuality in the nation's debate over same-sex "marriage" and now faces HRC charges.
Boisson had written a letter to the editor of his local Red Deer newspaper in 2002 denouncing the advance of homosexual activism as "wicked" and stating: "Children as young as five and six years of age are being subjected to psychologically and physiologically damaging pro-homosexual literature and guidance in the public school system; all under the fraudulent guise of equal rights."
The activist, local teacher Darren Lund, filed a complaint and the guilty verdict from Lori G. Andreachuk, a lawyer, was handed down some weeks ago. The latest decision involved the penalty phase of the trial.
"While agreeing that Boisson's letter was not a criminal act, the government tribunal nevertheless ordered the Christian pastor to [stop expressing his opinion]," Vere reported.
Andreachuk noted that Lund, who brought the complaint, wasn't, in fact, injured.
"In this case there is no specific individual who can be compensated as there is no direct victim who has come forward…," she wrote.
However, that did not stop her from ordering the payment anyway.
And as for the future, she wrote:
"Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc. shall cease publishing in newspapers, by e-mail, on the radio, in public speeches, or on the Internet, in future, disparaging remarks about gays and homosexuals. Further, they shall not and are prohibited from making disparaging remarks in the future about … Lund or … Lund's witnesses relating to their involvement in this complaint. Further, all disparaging remarks versus homosexuals are directed to be removed from current Web sites and publications of Mr. Boissoin and The Concerned Christian Coalition Inc," the lawyer opined.
Andreachuk also ordered Boissoin to apologize for the original letter in the Red Deer Advocate and told the two "offenders" to pay $5,000.
The apology letter, Vere said, "threatens civil liberties in Canada, according to Ezra Levant, an author and lawyer who himself was targeted by an HRC attack."
"[The] government now believes that if it can't convince a Christian pastor that he's wrong, it will just order him to condemn himself?" Levant wrote on his blog. "Other than tribunals in Stalin's Soviet Union and Mao's China, where is this Orwellian 'order' considered to be justice?"
"This is like a Third World jail-house confession – where accused criminals are forced to sign false statements of guilt," Levant wrote. "We don’t even 'order' murderers to apologize to their victims' families. Because we know that a forced apology is meaningless. But not if your point is to degrade Christian pastors."

Planned Parenthood, which in past years has promoted a "Choice on Earth" abortion campaigns during the Christmas season, has a new outreach, offering Christmas gift certificates to be used for abortions.
"It is difficult to think of a more tasteless, ghoulish thing to give anyone. I refuse to refer to these financial instruments as gifts as they are nothing more than a legal way to put a hit out on someone," said a participant in a forum at the online Lone Star Times, where the plan was reported.
"Planned Parenthood, this generation's King Herod, you know, the guy who ordered the mass slaughter of babies when Jesus was born," added WND columnist Jill Stanek, who also documented the plan on her blog.
According to the Lone Star Times, the nation's leading player in the abortion industry is "celebrating the most important crisis pregnancy of all time by selling gift certificates, perfect for the woman who has everything but moral fiber … And it's so much easier than finding the perfect 'Baby's First Christmas' ornament."
According to WISH-TV in Indianapolis, the controversial plan has people talking.
"People are making really tough decisions about putting gas in their car and food on their table, so we know that many women especially put healthcare at the bottom of their list to do," Chrystal Struben-Hall, an official for the abortion business, told the station.
The report said the certificates come in $25 increments and can be used for everything from birth control to $58 examinations that include breast exams and pap tests.
"They can be seen for sexually transmitted disease screenings, HIV tests and general prostate exams and those kinds of things," said Struben-Hall.
But can they be used for abortions?
Of course, Struben-Hall said. "We decided not to put restrictions on."
Stanek has campaigned to alert the American public of President-elect Barack Obama's extreme pro-abortion position. In fact, Obama considered partial birth abortion a "legitimate medical procedure" and opposed a requirement that abortionists provide life-preserving care for infants who survive abortion attempts, because of the burden it would impose on the abortionist.

Wichita, KS, June 24, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A murder investigation has been opened involving Shelley Sella, a California abortionist employed by George Tiller, who according to a former employee is reported to have intentionally stabbed to death an infant born alive during an abortion at Tiller's Women's Health Care Services abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas.
On the advice of an attorney, Operation Rescue reported the incident to the Wichita Police Department after a former Tiller employee, Tina Davis, told Troy Newman and Cheryl Sullenger of the stabbing in April. It is believed that the alleged infanticide took place sometime in the past two years.

A Catholic cleric who hit out at the "madness" of the Government's gay marriage plans has been condemned for "scaremongering".
Cardinal Keith O'Brien, the leader of the Catholic Church in
Scotland, accused the coalition of trying to "redefine reality" and

I should make it clear that any Muslims who do not do anything to oppose this bill while he or she can do something even if it is minimal, are sinful and will be questioned about this at the Day of Judgment.

The agenda to legalise gay
marriage has now become a huge problem. Politicians and celebrities
alike are falling over themselves to be seen supporting this abomination
which is promoted as the greatest civil rights issue of our time. One
would have expected such a major civil rights issue to have made it into
the manifestos of the three main political parties; yet a firm
commitment was conspicuous by its absence in all three parties’
manifestos.
This Same Sex Marriage Bill is
not aimed at changing the legislation regarding what marriage is per se,
yet it is most definitely aimed at changing a universal Divine law that
has been established since the creation of mankind.
The gay lobby has invested much
time, effort and money in changing the public’s perception of
homosexuality and has effectively created a public fear of criticism
against this unnatural act with the label of ‘homophobia’. In fact,
along with the help of morally degenerate people in society they have
terrorised others not to speak out or show any form of objection to
their agenda. It is shocking to see a Conservative government, which on
one hand is seemingly adamant to “preserve British Values” and morality,
then acting cowardly and accepting this fundamental change to the
oldest institution known to man: the stability of the society; a stable
and natural family unit.
During the recent debate about
Same Sex Marriage (SSM), there has been a clear absence of the Muslim
voice; this is a reflection of the fear within the Muslim community and
in particular Muslim institutions to raise their concerns. When the
Church of England and the Catholic Church do not cower from questioning
the absurdity of the government in its attempt to re-define marriage and
when their religious leaders openly oppose this misguided agenda, they
are well within their rights to question the lack of a vocal response
from the Muslim community.
Yet this is more than about how
we are perceived by others. Muslims have to be undeniably clear and
vocal in opposing this bill. I should make it clear that any Muslims who
do not do anything to oppose this bill while he or she can do something
even if it is minimal, are sinful and will be questioned about this at
the Day of Judgment. The Prophet, peace be upon him, was once asked by
his wife, Zaynab bint Jahsh RA,
“I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will we be destroyed even though there are righteous people among us?’ He said, ‘Yes, if evil becomes overwhelming.’ ”
Allah says in the Qur’an,
“And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction”. [2]
Yet he is the one who said,
"So why were there not among the generations before you those of enduring discrimination forbidding corruption on earth - except a few of those We saved from among them? But those who wronged pursued what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals. And your Lord would not have destroyed the cities unjustly while their people were reformers”. [3]

Although Muslims have to oppose
this bill and the normalisation of homosexuality as “a radical and
aggressive change of the organic Divine law” we need to be aware that
this will have a detrimental effect on the lives of every single member
of the whole society and more worryingly our children. As
an example, let’s look very briefly at how the lives of children will
be changed by the legalisation of SSM by looking at Canada. Canada
legalised SSM in July 2005. Since then gay organisations have been free
to promote homosexual practise in schools. The Accepting Schools Act,
an anti-bullying law, was passed in June 2012. This law requires all
schools to run 'gay-straight alliance' clubs if the students request
one. This is a means by which homosexuality has become the ‘norm’.
School resources have also changed to reflect the new law, including
tips for gay sexual activity.

Party of Ontario recounts from a mother who contacted him about a mock
Grade 3 same-sex wedding ceremony in February 2012, in a school in
Hamilton, Ontario:
“My son returned home from school and I asked, ‘How was school today?’
He responded, ‘Today in class I married my best friend James.’ To this, I asked, ‘How did that happen?’

Then she thought it would be a good idea for us to find a friend (of the same sex) in class to marry. Then a person dressed like a minister performed a ceremony and we all got married. Then we celebrated with cake and ice-cream.’ ”
We should understand undoubtedly
that homosexuality and gay marriage is not about two people loving each
other as it is misleadingly portrayed; it is a completely inhumane
sexual activity where by one of the married males will act as a female
and accept the other male to cohabit with him accordingly. A man can’t
have sex with a man except when one of them is acting as a female and
accepting to be penetrated by the other. A male private part cannot
penetrate another male private part and the same can be said about
lesbianism. It is absurd to see that the government is pursuing such an
immoral agenda despite the increasing reports about the sharp decline in
morality. Quoting some of these shocking reports will expand the size
of this article to volumes, yet it is highly relevant to remind readers
of the recent shocking news about the death of 13-year-old Chevonea
Kendall-Bryan which has driven the debate on the sexualisation of young
people and children to new levels. The real question is, as rightly
pointed by Cole Moreton,
what do we do about it? Over sexualisation is a phenomenon that needs
to be tackled from various angles including countering any attempt to
change the natural Divine family values known and accepted for hundreds
of thousands of years.
Let us recall in the Qur’an, the
story of the people of Loot: “And (remember) Loot (Lot), when he said
to his people: ‘Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you
has committed in the ‘Aalameen (mankind and jinn)? ‘Verily, you
practise your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people
transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins).’ And the answer of
his people was only that they said: ‘Drive them out of your town, these
are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!’ Then We saved him and
his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in
the torment). And We rained down on them a rain (of stones). Then see
what was the end of the Mujrimoon (criminals, polytheists and sinners)”.

The prophet Loot, unlike all
other prophets mentioned in the Qur'an, did not call his people to
worship Allah. No definite answer can be confirmed, yet it seems and
Allah knows best, that Allah wants us to focus on the gravity of the sin
Loot fought against. Again, it is needless to quote the overwhelming
numerous evidences regarding the psychological, moral and health issues
that result from diverting from a natural sexual life. For example, see
the latest facts revealed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) about
the “Highest-ever HIV diagnoses in gay men.” [4]
Scientists have confirmed there
has been a return of ‘risky’ sexual practise. Their study suggests a
huge improvement in testing for and treating HIV yet they have failed to
curb infections in gay and bisexual men in England and Wales. [5]
I am shocked to notice that
Muslims are underestimating the danger of this law on the whole society
once it is passed. It is true that the government has assured religious
organisations that they will not be forced into conducting marriages
against their religious beliefs, that school teachers will be able to
maintain their right not to teach anything which goes against their
individual beliefs but what is promised in the run up to the SSM Bill
cannot be guaranteed by anyone, especially the government.
The stark reality is this law
will pave the way for compulsory teaching of homosexuality in primary
and secondary schools. Some of this is already taught at present but
can be rightfully challenged by parents. The SSM Act once passed will
entrench aberrant behaviours as normal in the minds of our innocent
children, and we as parents will have no right to remove our children
from such classes. Faith schools will also not be exempt from these
changes.
On Tuesday 5th
February 2013, Parliament will witness a crucial point in the passage of
the bill, the Second Reading. The minimum you can do is the following:
1) Contact your MP today –
tell him/her how strongly you feel about the issue at a personal level,
that you will follow how they vote and that you have a long memory!
2) Contact family and friends and make sure they either email or meet their MP before Tuesday 5th.

Muslims in the UK should attempt
to participate in any capacity to show their full objection of this bill
and should also be ready to take further steps in the near future.
